After contests were held to determine the best mono costume and the best dancer, then everyone proceeded back through the streets with the band still playing, to the house of each patron, where they continued to play and dance for them until drinks were brought to them and many more fireworks were deployed. At the final stop, we had the privilege of eating a sumptuous midnite feast at the home of the late don Manuel Jimenez, where we were welcomed by his family in the warm and generous style that one finds only in the heart of Mexico. Many of the revelers would be up until the sunrise, but we had another early morning ahead of us, and so we regretfully took our leave and went to sleep with the remarkable sights and sounds of the Calenda in our dreams.
